SUMMER LACROSSE FUN & GAMES
SUMMER LACROSSE FUN & GAMES
PICK AN ACTIVITY. SET A GOAL. MAKE A PLAN.
You'll be amazed at how much better your stick skills will improve in no time.
Dodge your Dog. Dad. Grandma or Sister. Practice your favorite dodge at home and when you're feeling good, take it a goal.
Get into a daily wall ball or rebounder routine. Start with 25 daily reps, move up to 35 the next week and so on until you reach 100 reps/day.
Challenge your teammate to a Shootout. Look for goals at Underhill, Ritzer, Floods, Memorial Park, Cameron and some of the elementary schools too.
Cradle while you watch TV with a cradle baby that tethers a ball to your stick.
Ground Ball Room Clean Up. When your dad says it's time to clean your room, there's no better tool for scooping stuffies from the rug than your lacrosse stick.
Learn the Rules. Every single one. Now teach your parents so they can have more fun watching you play. Lax Drip has this great guide. Knowing the ins and outs of lacrosse will make you a much better player.
Pick a Trick (shot) and perfect it. Okay it doesn't have to be perfect, but trick shots are fun so find one you like and make it yours. Here are a few for inspiration.
Watch the PLL Pros (Like Jules!). Games are Friday, Saturday and Sunday all summer long on ESPN channels. Schedule is here.
Play catch every day for a week with a friend, sibling, parent or grandparent. Set a goal for how many passes you have to catch before you go inside. Increase by 1 each day. Catch on the run. If mom is more of a softball pro, just grab her glove and get outside.
Play pick up basketball. Don't see the connection? USA Lacrosse explains it here
Save your lemonade stand money for a Get Reps ball that counts your reps AND puts you on the leaderboard (via a connected app) to compete against both PLL pros AND your friends. It's very pricey (although it does go on sale) but its also very motivating. Maybe you have a birthday coming up?
Get Fit, Fast & Flexible. It will help your game AND reduce the risk of injury. Look for a simple, safe plan online or check out School of Reps (co-founded by D1 athletic trainer, educator and MLC mom Dawn Mafucci) for summer sessions starting in June.
Work with a high school or college student 1 on 1 or in a small group session. Reach out to Damon or Michael for contact info.
Looking for a used rebounder, foldable goal or mini goal? Check out Sideline Swap, FB Soma Swap, Buy Nothing or Marketplace or Play it Again Sports. (Please be extra diligent when buying used pads or helmets and triple check that they are NOCSEA/ND200 Certified). See Our Gear Guide.
